Trent Meyer - Camp Fontanelle Site Director

Trent Meyer
Trent Meyer began his time as Director of Camp Fontanelle in June of 2004. Trent was raised on a farm 1 mile north of Snyder, NE with 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He graduated from Scribner-Snyder H.S. in 1990. Midland Lutheran College became his home as he earned his degree in secondary education and biology. Trent also participated in the long jump and javelin for 4 years while at Midland. During the summer of 1993 Trent worked as counselor/maintenance personnel at Camp Carol Joy Holling.

Trent began his teaching profession at Ashland-Greenwood as the physical science department. He then moved on to teach at Fremont High School in 1998. On September 5, 1998, Trent wed Shelly Reuss of Neligh. Trent and Shelly have 4 children, Hannah, Josiah, Makenna, and Micah who joined the family in July 2009. The Meyers are very excited to be part of the program at Camp Fontanelle. Trent attended a summer camp in Kansas for 5 years before graduating from high school and has hosted kids from school to attend camp. He values the experiences to be gained by getting closer to nature and to God through the change of pace and surroundings that camp provides. Derek Bergman - Camp Fontanelle Assistant Site Director

Derek Bergman started attending Camp Fontanelle as a camper when he was in third grade. He also participated in other camping events within the Untied Methodist Church, including W.I.N. (Work In Nebraska) mission camps and backpacking camps to Colorado. In May 1998 Derek started working at Camp Fontanelle under Phil Katt. Derek’s primary role was as the camp lifeguard but filled many other roles as well from kitchen help to lawn mowing/maintenance.  Derek Bergman

During the summer of 1999 three other college aged students were hired along with Derek to serve as the camps first paid counselors. Derek served Camp Fontanelle in this role until the summer of 2002. In 2003 he served as an assistant in charge of programming with Camp Fontanelle for part of the summer. The following summer Derek worked with Nebraska Lutheran Outdoor Ministries as an assistant site manager for Sullivan Hills camp near Lodgepole, Nebraska. Derek assisted the Elkhorn and Omaha school districts as a substitute teacher for their elementary schools. Then in 2004 he started working with Mosaic in Omaha, serving adults with disabilities and for the last year and a half serving as a vocational workshop manager.

Derek Graduated from Elkhorn High School in 1997 and then went on to Central Community College in Columbus where he earned his associates degree. While in Columbus he also sang and toured across the nation with the colleges Chorale group. They sang and performed for numerous schools and groups to promote the college and singing and performing in general. In 2000 Derek Graduated from Columbus and moved on to Peru State College in Peru, Nebraska to pursue a degree in Elementary Education. Derek said it was his experience working at Camp Fontanelle that led him to this type of degree. Derek met his wife Amy (Rahfeldt) of Norfolk, while working at Camp Fontanelle. In May of 2006 they were married at Camp Fontanelle under the big oak tree. Amy works as a Child Care Partner (C.N.A.) at Children’s Hospital in Omaha. Together they have a daughter, Tava Marie Bergman ("Gotta have a Tava"). Tava will have her first birthday in July 2008. "I have strong ties with Camp Fontanelle and cannot wait to share with all those that visit camp the difference Christ can make in their lives. I pray for God to use me and let my life serve as an example to others." Derek, Amy, and Tava are very excited to be returning to Camp Fontanelle and cannot wait to hear your camp stories and share some of their own.
