Camp Fontanelle Stands Against Racism and Injustice

Camp Fontanelle, like The United Methodist Church of which we are a part, stands against all forms of racism and injustice. Recent events in our nation exposing racial inequality and injustice are antithetical to our mission: “To transform lives through intentional Christian community.” Our faith and unique Wesleyan roots teach us to pray, call us to action, and drive us to speak out against injustice.

We therefore reaffirm the following historic statements of our tradition and we will endeavor to act on them:

§ “Jesus said…I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.” (John 13:34)

§ The Profession of Faith commitment asked of all members “…to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever form they present themselves.” (UM Hymnal – The Baptismal Covenant, p. 34)

§ “Racism continues to cause painful division and marginalization. The United Methodist Church shall confront and seek to eliminate racism, whether in organizations or in individuals, in every facet of its life and in society at large.” (Book of Discipline, 2016, ¶5 p. 26, Article V of The Constitution)

§ Our policy: “Camp Fontanelle is open year-round for everyone, including groups beyond the United Methodist Church, without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, or handicap.” (https://www.greatplainsumc.org/camps)

The Site Council and Staff of Camp Fontanelle want to say to our racially ethnic sisters and brothers, your life matters and you are welcome and will be secure at Camp Fontanelle. We believe “the Lord requires (us) to do justice, and to love kindness.” (Micah 6:8)

We are committed to educate and equip ourselves to be part of the solution for justice, equality, and peace in our time.
